Laura McLellan

Partner Employment Law

Laura advises on the full range of employment law issues, from large projects, such as site closures and re-organisations, to day to day helpline queries.

Laura has considerable experience acting for clients in the retail, hospitality, manufacturing and logistics sectors. She acts for national employers, SMEs and senior executives. She also has experience advising on industrial relations issues.

Laura has a particular specialism in conducting investigations for clients, recent examples include:

Investigations into grievances raised against c-suite employees, including allegations of sexual harassment. Conducting interviews, reviewing evidence and preparing an outcome report.

Investigations into National Minimum Wage compliance - advising clients on risk and mitigation prior to an HMRC audit, or advising through an audit and negotiating with HMRC to minimise exposure.

Investigations into Equal Pay/Value liability - recommending steps to reduce risk and advising on pay negotiations.

Investigations into employment status - conducting interviews and reviewing documentation in line with recent case law changes in this area to advise on risk.

Laura has a significant amount of Tribunal litigation experience, covering each stage of litigation. Her experience includes defending employees in large multi-claimant litigation, for example, successfully defending a claim of unlawful deduction of wages brought by 480 claimants.

Laura’s style is calm, concise and commercial. Laura develops strong relationships with clients, providing pragmatic advice and solutions. Laura forged her career at a US international firm, but enjoys the more people focused approach of a boutique offering.

When Laura is not working she enjoys running around after her two boys - they keep her young! Watching sport, holidays and (attempting to) keep fit!
