Angus Menzies

Partner Employment Law

Angus is known for his calm, sensible and commercial approach which recognises that real people are ultimately the subject of most of his advice.

After more than 25 years’ experience advising employers of all shapes and sizes on their people strategies, Angus has dealt many times with most of the typical issues that crop up in the workplace, but he remains energised and motivated to assist HR teams, in-house legal departments and business owners in identifying and implementing the most appropriate and effective strategies to secure the best possible outcomes.

Angus particularly enjoys working with growing businesses, helping employers deal with the myriad challenges that come with an increasing workforce, but he’s also advised on numerous head-count reduction exercises and business transformation projects affecting employee numbers and conditions. Clients appreciate the peace of mind Angus offers, and the assurance that he can help them navigate a safe and pragmatic course through even the most complex of issues. He has a particular interest in advising on restraint of trade matters, claims under the whistleblowing legislation, and “Gig Economy” related issues.

Angus is a resolute opponent but, whether representing clients in Employment Tribunal or High Court litigation, Angus brings creativity and empathy to workplace dispute resolution, whilst always remaining focussed on the client’s preferred outcomes.

Having previously worked in international law firms, a Big Four accountancy practice (where he established and led the Employment Legal Services team), and one of the fastest-growing consultancy-model law firms, Angus is experienced in working on multi-disciplinary and multi-jurisdiction matters for multinationals and plcs, whilst also understanding the people challenges faced by start-ups, PE or VC backed businesses, and owner-managed businesses.

Advising senior executives in relation to exits has always been an important feature of Angus’ practice. His ability to remain calm and cut through to what is really most important, is often cited by clients as a key factor in turning what can be a highly stressful experience into a manageable one, where the best possible outcome is achieved.

Out of work Angus is a keen squash and racquetball player (injuries permitting) and a recent Peloton convert, but mostly enjoys spending time with his wife and young daughter, and watching football (Liverpool and England) or, to be honest, pretty much any sport…
